| Bob Benser Sr Wins First Event in Three Years. Bob Benser found himself back in the winners circle at the Daylight Savings Celebration Classic after three years. Benser was one of the founding members of the WGAT in 2012 and won Player of the Year honors winning 7 times. However its been a long road back. Benser who is now 85 years old has had to deal with some minor health issues which has effected his play, but Bob never let it get in the way of at least trying. This past Sunday it all paid off with his first victory of the year and his 8th in his WAGT Career. Achim Triebel from the WAGT Tampa-Sarasota Tour won the low gross division with a score of 80 winning by 3 strokes over Rick Lopiccolo and 4 strokes of visiting California member Simon Lee. Order of Merit- The Naples-Fort Myers Tour earned its first exemption to Nationals to award a Naples Fort Myers Member Free Entry. Frank Monaco who chipped in for birdie on the 18th hole using a putter from approx 45 feet helped him jump from 7th place to 5th place helping him earn 115 points to extend his lead on the standings and the front runner to win the first exemption. Currently Naples Fort Myers Tour has 32 rounds and 28 more are needed to award 1st and 2nd on the order of Merit standings free entry into Nationals Player of the Year- Monaco's Birdie on the 18th green earned him 4 quota points enouph to be in the money. The $68.00 he won from that Birdie help him increase his lead for Player of the Year. Achim Triebel climbed 8 spots from 10th to 2nd earning 396 points. Team Naples-Fort Myers- Remains the same as week before with: 1- Ck Fernando 2- Terry Schmidt 3- Frank Monaco 4- Rick Lopiccolo 5- Bob Benser Senior 1st, 2nd and 3rd alternates....Adam Reynolds, Don Miller, and a 6 way tie for the 3rd alternate. Qualifier- Chad Yeager won the qualifying flight to be eligible for the 2015 National Championship |
